Why won't my device even show up to select in iTunes?

I'm new to Apple products and recently bought an iPod. I've been syncing to Microsoft Outlook just fine until now. All of a sudden, my device isn't even listed, so I don't think it has synced to Outlook. Does anyone know why it isn't listed? I've tried clicking on everything in iTunes, with no success.
