Apple Mobile Device Service is not started.

When plugging my Iphone in and turning on Itunes, Itunes gives me this message

This phone cannot be used because the Apple Mobile Device Service is not started.

I did some further research and followed these steps.

Control Panel, Administrative Tools, Services & right clicked on Apple Mobile Device, clicked Restart.

I did this a couple of times, start, restart, start, restart as I continued to get the same message.


The latest message is: The Apple Device Service on local computer started and stopped. Some services stop automatically if they have no work to do, for example the performance logs and alerts service.


I am at a loss, any suggestions would be much appreciated.


I am using Windows XP

I have tried turning off firewalls and Anti-Virus programs.

iPhone 4, iOS 6
