Q: iTunes 11 Won't Let Me Add Songs To Library

When I try to import songs (MP3's) into my library literally nothing happens. At one point it was making the little cloud icon beside where it says "Music" have moving lines. But that went on for a while and I decided to shut down iTunes and open it up again. It continued to have moving lines for a few minutes and then stopped. But none of the songs that I tried to add showed up in the library. I tried numerous times and numerous ways (even playing each individual song so that iTunes would play it and post it in the library...well, it played it but never showed up in the library). I did stumble upon it being in the "Recently Added" playlist, but it's not in the regular library and I see no way of actually adding these songs to the library. If someone could help, that would be greatly appreciated.

Problem Solved - If using Windows 7 and for instance you want to add folder to itunes you must first transfer the music you want to upload to itunes in the Music Folder - Noted as "Public Music Folder" - This applies to either music on your system itself or from an External Hard Drive - There is no other option thanks to the annoying Windows 7 Operating System - I transferred a huge file and then added it the usual way onto itunes and it worked.

I cannot stress enough how much better and overall how immaculate Windows XP actually was - these new operating systems are nothing but headaches and troubles as they attempt to restrict us in usage by so many means necessary - I am so tempted to go back to that system as Windows 7 has been nothing but **** for me.

    Sincerely Michael a.k.a. (John Connor)

Thanks tmob904, this finally did it for me.

I just right clicked one of the album's songs in Recently Added, converted to AAC, and everything showed up straight away (including the mp3s). I then deleted the new AAC duplicate to trash.

Just noticed that it pulled in a few other songs that weren't in that album.. realised that the rest, which didn't import, had no "Artist" in the ID3 tag. As soon as they did they skipped right into the library too. I think that these files might have been causing the problem in the first place.

Go to your music section on your computer and copy the folder into PUBLIC FOLDER then go to itunes and add folder from public folder - it worked for me you must have a settings issue if it doesnt work

Slender's post at the bottom of page 1 worked for me. Don't understand what it has to do with store preferences but it worked!

I've tried all of the solutions outlined in this this thread from switching the file name, altering Preferences and moving the file to a different directory and NOTHING works.

I'm running the lastest version of iTunes 11 (11.0.2) on Windows 7 with a Solid State Boot drive and a physical hard drive for data (where all my media is stored). I'm trying to add a couple of folders of MP3 albums and nothing happens when I try to "Add Folder" or "Add File". This is aggrevating beyond belief. Fix the problem Apple

bendw99 agree with you, I have tried everything here, and wasted a lot of time and stil nothing.  It is not a Windows 7 problem it is an iphone problem.  Apple needs to fix this!!

Add file to library - what could be simplier?  No go man!    File does not add no matter what settings or view or check marks.

How many solutions have been put forth here, why should it be so complicated?  It is a simple, basic thing that everyone wants to do.

Any genius out there that can provide a certain workable solution?

Butterpaper's suggestion worked for me. I tried all other things but this one finally worked. You just need to add an Artist to the track of the song you are trying to add by using Audacity or a similar program. As long as the Artist field isn't blank, it will add to the library for me.

None of these options worked for me either. I'm running Windows 7 32 Bit and iTunes 11.0.4.4. iTunes actually crashes whenever I try and import files or folders.

HOWEVER, I did get my music imported!

    Here's how:

    Open iTunes.

Open Windows Explorer and locate the folder where your music resides.

Drag the folder of music into the iTunes window area where the albums are listed.

I just dragged it around in the iTunes window until the red circle with a slash turned into "+Copy".

    Let go of the mouse.

The music is playing as I type!

Closed iTunes, reopened, it is still there!

Maybe this will work for you, too!

PS. If that doesn't work by itself, I had also copied the folders into the iTunes folders with the rest of the iTunes music. Don't know if that played a part or not.

I tried everything too. Nothing worked. Then I noticed one new checked song transferred to my iPad.

Did a search & found the following which worked for me:

"On itunes what does the check mark by the song mean?

In: iPod, iTunes, Song Meanings [Edit categories]

    Answer:

This is the selection item. If it is in your main listing of songs, it either allows or disallows a song to be copied to your IPOD. It also allows/disallows it from playing in any play list. So if you have it selected/checked in a play list, it will play. If you don't have it selected, it remains as part of the play list, but will not play unless you force it to play through a double click."

All my checked songs and playlists then manually transferred to my iPad.

I know I'm a little late on this post but I have been having the same problem. I searched through this whole post and tried all of the solutions and none of them worked for me. The only thing that worked for me was to edit the song info and type in the artist and song name in the correct spots because for tsome reason the artist name was also under song title so I couldn't find them in artists.
