when I try to partition my drive, it only gets halfway through then freezes. Why?

I am on an imac late 2009. When I try to partition my harddrive with bootcamp assistant to 80 gigs, it takes hours to get halfway, but then freezes. This is after fixing the "files cannot be moved" problem by reparing my harddrive with the osx installation disc.
