Remote Disc always on in Finder?

For those of you with a MacBook Pro Retina (15"), does the "Remote Disc" icon always appear in the Finder sidebar, or only when there is a remote disc available on your local network? The icon is always there on mine, even when this is the only computer on my network. Is this normal or indicative of a problem?

Thanks so much,

Daine

Remote Disc is not limited to the rMBP but appears on all Macs that don't have an optical drive built in. More here.

Very true. Do you know if the Remote Disc should *always* display in the sidebar, even if no remote disc drive is available? That's what I'm really wondering. Yes, I can make it go away, but I don't really mind it. I'm just curious if it's supposed to be there all the time even when it serves no purpose.
