Strange AppStore problem cannot update and download previous...

Hi;

I encountered strange problem with AppStore. There was uptade for one application so I tried to update it. It failed. Recommendation was to use purchases page and update from there. Same problem. I deleted app and try to install it again from "Purachases" it is not posssible anymore for about two weeks. It started to act same on my MacBook and iMac I am getting error "An Error Has Occured" and nothing elese. I was able to download iTunes 11 update without problem but not others anymore. I tried delete plist file, delete cache, sign out and back in and reboot everything and nothing still same behaviour. Any ideas?

I did that. Same results. I switched off all firewals on router and on machine as well. Disabled IPv6 support and disabled any QoS control on router. Everything is working. I can surf web HTTP, HTTPS, Jabber is working, SSH, SMTP, IMAP everything (pings are 28ms in average). Speed is about 4MBit downlink. But no one deviec can use AppStore or iTunes store. We tested iMac, MacBook, iPhone 4, iPhone 3GS and iPad. Login to store works but downloading past purchases or buy and download new does not.

It seems to me that there is something strange that I miss or they route me to partialy dead servers. I know they use Akamai or something. I moved iPhone to different Wifi and it was able to download app which wasnot in mine environment. What is strange I cannot download apps excluding original apple updates which went to download fine. I cannot find wahtta screwd.

I filled tickets to Apple but got some standard links to notes which did not help me.

I am away right now so I cannot do that. I do not have separate modem. What I have is Cisco X3000 DSL modem router. I tested only Wifi not direct connection so I will as soon as I will have chance. ISP is Slovak Telecom. Now I am on FTTH line from Orange Slovakia and some old purchses can be downloaded but some not. AppStore just return general note "An Error Had Occured" so I do not know what exactly happening there. Login to store works here and there but downloading and buying is different story.

So I did it. I fixed one system and make it working on one location. It seems that some purchases "resumed" somehow and I was able to download and some not. I found that AppStore can be put into debug mode by:

  1. defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool true
  2. After that I logged out from AppStore
  3. Quit AppStore
  4. Delete caches in ~/Library/Caches/com.apple.appstore/
  5. Launch application and went do "Debug" menu
  6. Choose "Reset Application" and "Delete Cookies"
  7. Quit AppStore
  8. defaults write com.apple.appstore ShowDebugMenu -bool false
  9. Launch again and log in

After this I was abble to install items stating "An Error Has Occured". I will try to delete some apps and reinstall them on different location and then back on original one where problems are originated.

There is no stand alone modem. DSL port is part of Cisco X3000 router. I did all tests to make sure Internet is working. I can surf web, read and replay to the e-mail, use Jabber open terminal and use SSH, FTP and other services. Pings to major sites are about 24ms and average speed is 4MBit downlink and 512KBit uplonk. So net is reliably working from all devices connected to WLAN.

As I mentioned in previous update I was able to make one system working but on different location (connection) by fix of broken downloads and reseting App Store. I believe there is something what can broke downlaod and incomplete and/or broken file remains on your system. So far I did not find what caused that. Once I will be back on location which caused problems I will investigate more. I still have some issues with iTunes so there is some Apple involvement in this but I cannot say now. I will post to the trhread as I will find out what is wrong.

I will keep you guys posted. It will take time till I will find what is wrong. I will use Google DNS as well as Opend DNS which is my standard setting. I will try ISP DNS. So far I tested laptop on two locations and it is working. I can delete application and then redownload it again from purchsed after fix I described above in the thread.

For sure router problem. I replaced Cisco X3000 with old Belkin and everything is back to normal. Currently I do not have explanation for this because only iTunes and AppStore is not working everything else works. Will do more investigation. I do not even have reason to return router to the vendor because I do not know how to explain what happening :-(
