I updated iTunes to version 11 on Windows 8 and now I have a very high cpu consumption when close, service and distnoted syncservice get 100% . close them from the task manager. help!!

I have this exact same issue on my pc. I googled and some forums came up with the fix to reset winsock using command. I tried this but it did not work. One thing I noticed is that these services are oddly using so much cpu only after I disconnect and close itunes. Even right now as I type distnoted is using more than 50% of the cpu and I've closed iTunes more than 30 minutes back.

I'll tell how I tried with command

1. Open command with admin rights

2. Type in "netsh winsock reset"

3. Reset as shown in command prompt.

These steps have fixed it for some but I repeated my steps with my iPhone and the same thing happens with these background processes eating up my cpu.

Any help is appreciated.

Same exact problem on Windows 8 running the latest version of iTunes - having to kill distnoted every time I leave iTunes gets old fast. The winsock reset fix did not work.

So 2 months have passed and I still have this problem. I am still having to kill distnoted process manually from processes everytime. This has caused my pc to use high power and the performance has gone down a lot.

Alas, no one seems to be in a hurry to address this... a workaround is not to close iTunes or logoff after using. On Windos 7, there is no CPU looping and process goes away in about 10 seconds after iTunes shuts down.

Closing iTunes

RIght click on the shortcut on your desktop

Click Properties

Click Compatibility

Click enable compatibility mode

Choose windows 7 from the dropdown menu

Click Ok or apply - reopen itunes and test

None of this seems like it is addressing the cause... the only winsock provider on my machine is bonjour which is running the latest version from Apple (dll version is 3.0.0.10). Putting itunes in compatability mode does nothing. Putting the only bonjour executable in compatibility mode does nothing either.

Thanks for the help but nothing worked. As JAta2 says its the same with me. I am worried that this is going to destroy my processor and other parts. Even now my CPU fan is at top speed when the only thing running right now is chrome and maybe very few background apps. Really need support on this from Apple.

The workaround I've been using is to tell users either to 1) Not quit Itunes after starting it or 2) Logging off after finishing off with Itunes. Of course, running the task manager and killing the distnoted and syncservice (only present if you had an attached device while in Itunes) processes works too. This works because the misbehavior starts only when iIunes is quit and ogging out kills all running processes. But still, I agree that Apple should find a fix for this.

I have been manually killing the process for the past month. It only started after I upgraded to Windows 8. I still have a laptop on W7 and theres no such problem with it. This is actually ridiculous that Apple have not attended to the matter when they are rolling out updates to iTunes and other components so regularly.

Latest iTunes (11.0.4.4) does *not* fix this problem even after uninstalling all apple services including bonjour and resinstalling.

C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support

look for distnoted.exe and right click on it. on the compatibility tab (click change setting for all users if you have that option); then check run this program in compatibility mode for: and select windows 7. also check run this program as an administrator. click apply then ok

This seemed to fix the problem for me....let me know if this helps
