I'm trying to convert an mpeg file so its readable on my macbook pro, I have OS 10.7.5. I right click the file and select Encode selected video file. For setting I click 1080p. The next window pops up:
acconvert: failed to create an Export Session. Check setup.
What now???

I also have this very same problem. I ctrl click on my selected video file (avi) and select from the menu "encode selected video files". after I click continue from the "encode media" panel I recieve the same error as above, "failed to create an export session".
I too am not sure what to do next.
Any help would be appreciated.

Finally figured something that worked for me. Right click selected video file. "Get Info." Go down to "Name & Extension:" I manually changed my format from [.mov to .m4v]. This is the only thing that worked for me without having to add some program that would convert it.

I am new to the mac seen and I am having the same issue just keep saying avconvert: failed to create export session.
I am running OSX 10.9.4
Any help would be great i have hunted google and getting no where fast.
Converting in Quicktime player worked for me (iMovie wasn't an option though, but iPad works fine). This is after Services->Encode... and DivX Converter failed - thanks to wedebugyou.com!
MediaInfo tells me the source file was MPEG/AC-3, resulting file accepted by iMovie is AVC/AAC.
Now the question is, how can I do this in batch mode?

Converting to iPad cuts your quality in half. It is ok if only showing on a smaller device but I am guessing if you show it on a TV that the quality will suck. This option (quicktime export to iPad) is an ok work around, but it still doesn't solve the initial question/issue: "avconvert: failed to create an Export Session. Check setup"
What Application are you talking about?
I had the same problem. I uninstalled "Divx Converter" and "Divx Player" and the problem solved.
I don't have either Divx program installed.

Open your file in Quicktime player which is bundled in ML. Then click on File, Export To and select iMovie...
