Q: The file "iTunes Library.itl" cannot be read because it was created with a newer version of iTunes

I didn't have all of my music when i updated iTunes so the library I need is the latest one i had in iTunes 11, but it gives me the one I had at the time that I updated iTunes.

I reinstalled it using Pacifist, cause after replacing iTunes I kept having a bunch of errors.

Worked great! but i did not have to re-name i tunes folder, also I hat to restart bonjour from the control panel.

When using the old library file (about 7 months old), will I lose any change I had made to cover art, music info, etc. b/w the prior version of file and file being replaced?

This works perfectly when going from 11 to 10.7. What if I need to downgrade to 10.5.3 this trick not working. Any help is much appreciated. Thx.

same thing happened to me Itunes really is losing they loyal customers...

For your information, you can also solve the problem by just permantly deleting the new "itune library" that was on your computer in the music folder.

Thats how mine got solved in that way.

This helped me revert to 11.0 from 11.0.4;  when I upgraded to 11.0.4 it corrupted the driver/registry settings for my DVD drive and I couldn't rip any music. Microsoft FixIt tools could not fix the driver issue; downgrading iTunes was the only available fix. 

Since version 11 I've been missing the art preview, but got over it when I discovered I could bring it up by clicking on the small artwork with the controls. 

But I still hate the fact that I can't search the library for artists by "song artist" instead of "album artist", for songs on Various Artists compilations or soundtracks.  Seems that my only solution is to go to the "Songs" view and sort them all by the Artist heading.

I lost all the music and everything that I have how can I recuperate it after I done the steps that you recommend. I could open Itunes but where is my music. What Do I have done wrong please help!!

close itunes first. then go to search. locate for the itunes library.itl. SIMPLY delete it. then open the itunes now.

this solved mine. previous itunes library will now appear.

Where is the itunes library.itl?

Deleting the iTunes Library.itl file alone will not make your library magically reappear.

found the itunes library and deleted it. how do I find my previous library - there is nothing there when I open up my shortcut?
