mouse and track pad

When I go to my Bookmarks on the toolbar and begin to scroll down, my pointer disappears and Bookmarks close. This happens with my mouse and with my touchpad. It works find when I use only the keyboard. What could be wrong? I have noticed this happening for two days. I had 10.7.5 installed two months ago but this problem has only just begun.
