Allan
1. connect your ipad2 to your computer
2. open itunes
3. Look for your device in the colum on the left...eg. Johns iPad, and click on it
4 under info should be an option to download and update
So Goolay,
You've started iTunes on your computer and connected your iPad. You select your iPad in iTunes and select the first column in iTunes. What happens then?
If you have an iPad 1, the max iOS is 5.1.1. For newer iPads, the current iOS is 6.0.1. The Settings>General>Software Update only appears if you have iOS 5.0 or higher currently installed.

If you are currently running an iOS lower than 5.0, connect the iPad to the computer, open iTunes. Then select the iPad under the Devices heading on the left, click on the Summary tab and then click on Check for Update.
Tip - If connected to your computer, you may need to disable your firewall and anitvirus software temporarily. Then download and install the iOS update. Be sure and backup your iPad before the iOS update. After you update to iOS 6.x, the next update can be installed via wifi (i.e., not connected to your computer).
Cheers, Tom 😉
Nope. I have the same problem, and none of those directions have helped. Even with firewall totally off, etc, it simply will not install an update. Apparently 6.1.3 is the latest one it is trying to update me to (from 4.3 I think) but although I have clicked "download and update" probably 20 times at this point, and waited an hour or so each time for it to download, it just mever gets to the "install" step. ***???????
