I cannot figure out how to check and uncheck songs in new iTunes. Now no checks appear near songs, and I have more songs in my iTunes library than space in my iPod so I need to uncheck. I just imported several CDs and now new iTunes doesn't have a box to check or uncheck next to songs.

Thanks, but actually I figured out better solution. The problem was that no checks were even showing, and clicking on the songs, as you and others suggested is cumbersome. I wanted all checks/unchecks visible. I went into preferences and checked "checklists." Problem resolved! But only w/in song view, not in albums.

I figured it out. You right click on the song you want to uncheck and right at the bottom it says "Uncheck Selection" so you click that. the name of the song goes faded and it is now unticked!
This was a deal breaker for me and I have remained on iTunes 10. Can anyone using the just released iTunes 11.0.2 (or earlier) for Windows tell me if this functionality has been reinstated? Specifically looking for the ability to view/modify check marks in album view.

Thank you! Now I can stop iTunes from playing ALL my podcast downloads instead of just the episodes for one podcast. This helped me a lot!
To 'Check' all tunes in iTunes, first go to iTunes and select 'My Music'. You will get a list of all your songs. In Edit, click select all.
All your music will be highlighted in lovely Blue.
Right click.
Scroll down to 'Check/Uncheck Selection'
'sit.
Pretty simple.
Windows:
Ctrl + A, right click on it then click on "Uncheck Selected".
Tah Dah, it's done.
