10.8 Mail Server not sending Emails

Hey guys,

I've build up my OSX 10.8 server yesterday and everything worked out well. My website is online, the ports I need are open and the EMail clients are able to connect to my server. But I have a mayor problem...the EMails I send disappear during proccess of sending. I used a @live.de account for testing in both ways but the emails just wont be delivered!? Doesn't matter which way I try it! The one thing that is really confusing me is that I'm able to send myself emails betweet two test account I created on the server...

So far I've tested: ports, MX-Records, static IP(I don't use dyndns or something like that)!

Thanks in advance.

I wouldn't recommend you use your own server for public DNS.

Your registrar is network solutions (netsol), and at netsol you point NS for your domain to a hostname in your domain. This creates a problem, nobody can reach your server for dns resolution.

google DNS Glue Records. If you continue to delegate your domain to your server, you'll need either glue records or another domain to work with.

Really, I would avoid that config.

Let network solutions provie your public DNS and use your server for internal DNS.

My recommendation is to go into Netsol an change the DNS back to to hosted at netsol.

The nameservers for your domain are listed as ns.udagdns.de and ns.udagdns.net. This means that any DNS records need to be entered on those name server. Records you add to your DNS on your server are irrelevant.

The same way you added MX records at your provider's web based control panel, you also need to add the A records in the same place.

Care to elaborate a little? I'm having the same problem but I have A and MX records on both my server and my domain registrar and as of upgrading to 10.8 Server my mail server won't send or receive email.

The 'Forwarding Server' in my DNS panel is set to my router. I have one host name server.mydomain.com set to my server's IP and the create MX record checkbox is checked. When I show all, it expands the one entry into three lines that all say the same host name but with different words after them... 'machine', 'mail exchanger', and 'name server'.

At my registrar, I created an A record for server.mydomain.com and pointed it to the static IP of my Mac mini... I created an MX record this name as well.

What am I doing wrong?
