Should you be able to send Messages from one iPhone to another, when neither phone has a 3G data or Wi-Fi connection? I assumed that, with no data connection, that messages would go through as regular (paid) text messages. But I tried it the other day, and none of my messages sent until I turned 3G back on again.

depend on the type of the message. SMS will go but nothing else.
You can use bluetooth to send data files between two iPhones which are next to each other.
OK. Well, I was just trying to send a regular SMS message (no photos) from an iPhone 4S to an iPhone 5, both running iOS 6.0.1. If I switch 3G and Wi-Fi off on both phones, the message won't go through. We both have credit on our mobile accounts and are connected to the O2-UK mobile network.
