Importing Problem from HD video camera to FCE

I just bought a macbook pro retina with all the bells and whistles. Tried importing video from Canon Vixia HD21 which I have been using successfully with my macbook for years. Set the import to Apple intermediate Codec but machine will not go to FCE. Puts the clips into the queue, downloads them then I get the red exclamation point and nothing is transferred to FCE. Anybody have any suggesions?

MacBook Pro with Retina display, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

Mountain Lion is not supported with FCE.

However some users have sucess.

Well I appreciate your suggestions. Spent several hours trying to make it happen but it's having nothing to do with me. Nice that Apple has decided that I don't need to download videos anymore or make them either, since they have ceased including iDVD with the new machine. You would think if I was willing to blow almost four grand on a laptop I could get the things I want and need.
