Question

Outgoing mail stuck in outbox

I have several email accounts. Some gmail. Some yahoo.

For some reason, for some email accounts, my outgoing mail gets stuck in the outbox. I get the following message:

Cannot Send Mail

The connection to the outgoing server

"apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com" failed. Additional Outgoing Mail Servers can be configured in Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars.

Not sure why all of the sudden this happens.

I went and checked the email account settings. I even deleted the email account and added it again.

I am running iOS6.

Not sure what else to try.

Help!

I do not use yahoo but the apple. in front does not seem right.

can you remove it and try just smtp.mail.yahoo.com as your outgoing server

to change it you need to edit your outgoing server settings under the account you re-added.

I am not adding "apple." to the server address. On the iPhone, there is a "default" server setting for Yahoo.

But I just tried adding a second server and only used smtp.mail.yahoo.com.

And now (fingers crossed!), it seems to be working!

It think Apple added "apple" to the Yahoo smtp server default setting and that seemed to be the issue.

great,

you may want to remove the former apple.smtp.mail.yahoo.com server to avoid issues in the future and keep it clean.

I can't remove it. It is the standard "in-phone" setting for Yahoo mail.

But actually, that did not solve it. The problem is still persisting.

did you try the yahoo mail app?

I've got exact same problem starting about 12 hours ago (around 2AM PST on Dec 2, 2012). It happened with both of my Yahoo and Gmail accounts. Both of them are default setting came with the iPhone. I did delete and resetup the accounts several times and still couldn't get it works. Is it something happening from Apple server?

I'm using iPhone 5. Please update anyone.

Mine started over the weekend but I am thinking something is up on either apple's side or Verizon.

I have been having the same problem all weekend and I am with Telus in Canada so I am thinking that it is an Apple problem.

The Nutley Nut,

When setting up your email, do not click on the Yahoo!
Use "Other" and follow the prompts. Use imap.mail.yahoo.com as your Incoming Mail Server, and smtp.mail.yahoo.com as your Outgoing Mail Server.
Enter user name and password information for you Yahoo account.

Im having the same problem, but Im using Telcel in Mexico. Today I upgraded from an iphone 4s to a 5, and yahoo mail was working perfectly on the 4s. On the iPhone 5 it keeps showing a pop up with some yahoo server issue.

On my iPad 3 its working perfectly running same iOS version. Must be some interaction between Yahoo and the iPhone 5...

Whatever the issue was, its been fixed. I added my yahoo account throught the iphone's Yahoo option. Its working perfectly... EXCEPT that my yahoo mail isnt showing up in the notification center, both gmail and iCloud are. What gives?!

I am having the same problem on my iPad. I'm on Yahoo email and trying to send emails from my iPad and getting the error message that says "A copy has been placed in your Outbox. Sending the message content to the server failed". I tried some of the suggestions above and got nowhere. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
