ipad is disabled

I changed my iPad password last night and forgot what I changed it to. It was a newly set up laptop and I never synced it to iTunes. Now the iPad is disabled and it won't connect to itunes. How do I reset the password. I have a data plan on the iPad and don't want to mess that up.

I assume you mean you set a new passcode, not password. If you changed your passcode and then forgot it, and had not synced while the new passcode was on your iPad and it was unlocked, then you will have no choice be to force it into recovery mode to restore it, without using your backup, and start over. This is described at the bottom of this artice: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1212, under "If you have never synced your device with iTuens".
