Any ideas on : how do I make Image capture and Preview "recognize" Canonscan Lide 80 in Snow Leopard ???

Please would anyone be so kind as to tell me if there is any means to make Canonscan Lide 80 operate in Snow Leopard? Using Preview and/or Image Capture? Needless to say I have tried and tried and yes the latest security update is installed but it did not remedy the problem and yes Rosetta is instaled and both apps mentioned above are runing in 32bit mode.
