iMessage - Facetime not "connecting" mountain Lion

Hi,

here is my problem.

I just updated to 10.8.2 from Lion, and i got two issues in iMessage and Facetime. When I try to connect to my icloud account, the app keeps for 3 mins triying to log me in, but it shows a message saying "could not connect to server, please check your internet connection".

How I know the internet is not the problem? because I`m using the same mac to write this question.

I tought the problem was my iMessage app, beacause I was using the beta version before the update, so I deleted it and reinstalled Mountain Lion, still no success

Some advices and solutions triyed:

  1. Switch beteween ethernet/cable and WiFi. no success
  2. Reinstall M. Lion. No success
  3. Look for the com.apple.facetime/imessage file on the library. There was no such file in that folder.
  4. Check if 2 iCloud accounts were on the app. There was one 1 account
  5. To check the internet - wifi - account. I used my iPad and iPod Touch to send messages and I can send them from there.
  6. Try to log in with another account or fake account. No success, same response
  7. Use another account to log in with iMessage, like gtalk, it did

I can use my iCloud account to everything else, but this.

So... that`s it... if there is another solution, please tell me

Hi,

Sometimes some Macs cannot find the iMessages server.

Try adding a Public DNS server to System Preferences > Network > Advanced Button > DNS tab

Google have two 8.8.8.8 and 8.8.4.4 which many people use.

Having entered an Apple ID in the iMessage pane with the correct password then the app should pop up two .plist in ~/Library/Preferences.

com.apple.imservice.iMessages.plists (holds your Apple ID and any Aliases/iPhone numbers)

com.apple.imessages.bag.plist (Holds the server info)

I would also open the Activity Monitor and see if IMAgent (it will show in lower case) is actually running.

It is supposed to launch when the computer starts up (It provides Off Line Listening features for both Messages and FaceTime).

Ralph,

I have tryed the with a public DNS before, still no success.

I checked the files in the ~/Library/Preferences. and both file are there... when i opened the com.apple.imessages.bag.plist with text edit, i got this:

HI,

In the Finder go to the View Menu > Customise Toolbar and then chose the Quick Look option to add to the header of the window

User uploaded file

(See top of window under the "Preferences" title is an eye icon named "Quick Look")

Tiy can then highlight an items and use Quick Look and you will see this for that Data you posted.

The other two pieces of Info look OK at first glance. Nothing obvious is standing out.

I would try this next.

In the Activity Monitor Highlight imagent (it will be in lower case). Then use the red Quit button top left and confirm Force Quit in the Dialogue Box.

As IMAgent starts when the computer does you should now restart the computer.

Hi,

Humm, stubborn this one is.

Access the ~/Library/Preferences and delete both com.apple.imessages.bag.plist and com.apple.imservice.iMessage.plist (Drag to Trash) and then restart Messages.

In doing this you may find you have to re-enter the Apple ID in the iMessages account in the Messages Preferences.

Hi,

Is the Serial Number present ?

Open About this Mac in the Apple Menu

Click the line that tells you the current OS X version twice (Changes to Build number then Serial Number).

HI,

Yes the missing Serial Number is an issue.

For some reason it is used in the generation of the Authorisation Token that then appears in the Keychain.

This only seems to be an issue once you update to OS X 10.8.2 which updates Messages to version 7.0.1

As to the Why, I have no idea.

It would be one way of check the OS was running on a Mac.

It may be something to do with the way Apple IDs are linked to computers (As in the way iTunes purchases can be played on five (registered) Computers at any one time).

I have seen Posts that suggest holding CMD and N keys at Start up enable access to "write" the serial Number

Other than that I have been suggesting people visit an Apple Store or Apple Authorised Service Provider to have it "flashed" back to the board.
