my i phone has vanished, misplaced hopefully but new, never used and barely set up. it went dead in one day. is there any way to wake it up? find my phone says it is offline.

Can someone please advise me? I have/had a new 4 s that I had barely set up and used twice when it vanished. Really absurd! Thought I sat it next to bed to work on setting it all up or by computer in LR, When I could not find it I began calling it from my other phone and it rang but I had not yet set up voice mail so it gave the generic message. By the time my son came to show me how to use findmyiphone it was going straight to voice mail. I know the battery does not stay up long w/o a charge but it was not in use.I had taken it off the charger where it had a full charge.. but, it went to voice mail the second day it was missing.

Can this phone be woken up at all for the gps to be located ? and what does it mean that it says offline? Dead?
