There have been five iPad models: the original iPad, the iPad 2, the third generation iPad, the "iPad with Retina display" and the iPad Mini.

The original iPad and the third generation iPad have been discontinued. There is not now, nor has there ever been, an iPad 3 so if you are searching for technical specifications look for iPad (3rd generation).
I thought the iPad 3 had the retina display and a5 chip and the 4 had retina and a6 chip
Exept for the fact that officially there is no "iPad 3" or "iPad 4", that is correct.
