Dec 4, 2012 1:46 PM in response to markwmsnby phil8150,The hard drive is a western digital (my passport) hard drive. The format is Windows NT File System (NTFS). I still have 657 GB of Storage left on it. I have about 92 GB of photos on the external hard drive right now that I don't want to lose. I tried verifying the disk but it keeps saying verify volume failed: Invalid request. I'm starting to doubt myself, but I was pretty confident I have used this hard drive before with my macbook pro (before I updated my software to Mac OS X Lion 10.7.5 (11G63b)). I know I've used it before on my old pc laptop. When I highlight my photos and drag them over to my hard drive folder I just get a circle with a slash through it and the pictures go back to my photo folder. Hope that makes sense.

Dec 4, 2012 7:42 PM in response to phil8150by markwmsn,★HelpfulMaybe you had NTFS-writing software installed before you installed Lion and it was incompatible with Lion.
In any event, you now need to install NTFS-writing software on your Lion system.

Dec 4, 2012 8:34 PM in response to markwmsnby phil8150,Are there any free NTFS-writing software programs? I found the Paragon software program, but I was hoping to not have to pay 20 bucks for it. I know I'm a cheap skate. Also does anyone know if I update my operating system to Mountain Lion if that will solve my problem?

Dec 4, 2012 8:38 PM in response to phil8150by markwmsn,I use the Paragon software. It came free with one of my drives; I don't recall which one.
Upgrading to Mountain Lion will *not* solve the problem.
