Q: Fan on my MacBook Pro came on and will not turn off, what could be wrong or how do I fix?

You may be able to reset your fans, however, with a SMC reset. It's worth a try.

I have tried this several times already, sadly it is not working. When I wake it up, restart or turn on the fan if off and then starts speeding up so fustrated. It might end up being a busted fan Can't help but wonder why on earth this would happen I always make sure and check that the fan turns on and off when it is need or stop using comp when it gets too hot. All I am seeing now is $$ signs to get it fixed.

Dec 4, 2012 2:24 AMby MAYRA4A,yup, looks and sounds like I will definitely need a trip to the apple E-room I ran an AHT and it came back with this 4SNS/1/C0000008: TPOP– –124 error both on the quick one and the extended one. According to some other page it is a sensor Now I am hoping it is just a fan haha That doesn't sound expensive compare to the other possible sensor issue lol. Oh question, if it is a sensor with the logic board ?...? would taking it in to the apple store place any of my computer content at risk of getting lost? I know I should probably back up before I do this but just trying to get a little insight as to what lies ahead for me.

Dec 4, 2012 2:29 AMby clintonfrombirmingham,As I recall, I think that replacing the fan resolves the sensor issue as well.
You asked the wrong person about backups - I'm a backup freak. Two Time Machine backups, two clones of my internal drive, and one clone of my 2TB 'working' drive. So if you haven't backed up yet, now is a good time to start before taking your machine in for repair.

I spoke to apple and I am having to mail it in to get looked at and repaired. After they access the damage and cause for it :/ They better not tell me that the warranty doesn't cover it. ugh I am so fustrated
LexSchellings: Yes it is still under warraty. Now I am praying it is nothing major major

I've been doing some reading and it is quite possible that my MBP late 2011 is sadly part of the probably million of MBP's out there with logic board issues. I am glad I am under warranty (still have to wait and see what apple techs decide on my comp) and sad that my comp will probably be done with in a few years. Not even 4 as it turns out. I can honestly say my old iBook G4 was amazing gave me 8 great years. Never had an issue with it.
Something funny is that about 10 to 15 mins ago the fan on my comp (the only indicator I got of any issue going on) quite down and the comp was working perfect. It has been running really slow since I noticed the fan being over worked even if nothing is running. Then it started up again and once again quite down, functioned well for like 10 seconds and started being noisy and slow again.
However there is an issue that bugs me, if according to my AHT results it is a faulty logic board how come my comp is still functioning? Of course being slow and noisy. I've read on some sad stories on here
Wish me more luck and send me lots of good vives. Going to need them. Especially if I end up not being able to fix the comp.
Apple is letting me down and to think I just purchased an iPad mini for xmas :/
