Can a single Mail account have multiple outgoing people names?

I notice that Postbox seems to work well with multiple identities. In addition, you can set a different name for each identity, such as:

John Smith for john.smith@somedomain.com

Support for support@somedomain.com

Is there a way to do that in Apple Mail? If not, I think I'll switch to Postbox. It's on sale for $6.95 for a short time.

Thanks,

I just tried it again, and I'm afraid it just doesn't work for me. This time Mail acted like nothing was set for any of my accounts and I got the "Welcome to Mail" dialog to start adding accounts!

I reverted to my backed up .plist file and all was well.

I tried Postbox again and it was working well with separate names for each alias, so long as you associate the correct SMTP server with the correct account. But I started noticing mails from 6 and 7 years ago were sometimes showing up with 2012 dates! And there is zero help available, not even a user-to-user forums. Too bad, because Postbox looks like it has lots of nice features.

I'm back to Mail for now, but wish there was a good alternative.

Still looking at the other solution posted here. Thanks.

I already gave you that answer, 3 aliases per account are available

Here

3 ALAISES PER ACCOUNT ARE AVAILABLE

And if that is not what you want why are you sking for it.

Sorry for bothering you again. However, the fact that it works for me on two differenc computers and brakes Mail app for you intrigued me.

the file Accounts.plist contains separate parts for each account you have configured on Mail app.

The one that I have configured for my domain that I host at Google looks like one bellow. I only changed personal information - it is in upercase letters and bold in this example as well as changed uniqueId (the last string part at the bottom). Some other parts you may have different as well as these describe how long to keep Trash, Junk etc.

Csound,

Thanks for your note, but I'm afraid you are misinterpreting the question. I'm asking about associating different full names with each alias.

More than 4 are possible by the way.

This would have been far simpler had you said so, good luck.

Csound,

Thanks for your note. I did say so. I suggest you read my original post again where I asked:

Is there a way to do that in Apple Mail?

You might also take note of the title of the discussion which is:

I have the same problem. I used Eudora for a decade and I am suffering with Mail. My wife and I have always shared a single e-mail address. When we write, in Eudora we just chose the real name, like: John <smith@abc.net>, Sue <smith@abc.net> or John and Sue <smith@abc.net>.

Additionally, in Eudora we were able to choose between different smtps for that single account. For instance, when we write to a MS address (live, hotmail, etc) we know that our message will be bounced because the smtp of our domain is shared and almost permanently blacklisted, so we choose an alternative (paid) safe smtp for those messages. Or when when we are traveling abroad, we can add a local smtp without deleting any of the others in the list. Is it it possible in Mail to select a different smtp when we are composing a new e-mail? So far, I can only select "From" and "Signature".

Thanks in advance.

Ugh ... I'm in email heck right now!

I love Eudora but had to switch with one of the MAC OS upgrades.

Right now I'm using (MAC) Mail. I have multiple domains with GoDaddy.com. I have set up email aliases. They all point to 1 of 3 gmail emails. Untill a few days ago, all was well. I had about 9,000 incoming emails, and was able to reply from any "from" address I wanted for about 9 months.

A few days ago, I would send some mail and when it was replied to, it showed a wrong "from" address. Kind of akward when a client emails me at one domain and a random email/domain responds back that makes no sense.

I went to an Apple Genius and he could not resolve it. He called in his Genius and was unable to resolve it. They suggested I delete all accounts in (MAC) Mail and re create. I did.

Now when I send an email, I can see one of my 9 "from" addresses in the pull down, but when it is sent all of them show my gmail not my name@domian.com

Can anyone help??
