Nov 18, 2015 9:42 PM in response to vladimirku3nby bridget189,You need to have wifi. If you don't it won't work.....I had the same problem and once I got my computer connected to the wifi it worked.

Feb 18, 2016 1:50 PM in response to vladimirku3nby MacImagination,Sometimes your mac will get kicked off of your wifi network when trying to restore (I was reinstalling OS X after erasing the hard drive and my internet connection was interrupted. I had to restart my mac and go back into recovery mode when I received the "could not find" message when trying to reinstall). Make sure you are connected to the correct network and your password is correct.

Feb 28, 2016 9:52 AM in response to DaneTrainby ShotgunDave,I love when people talk badly about AppleCare on a discussion forum supplied by Apple. If it weren't for Apples concern for solutions you wouldn't have this page to complain

Jul 18, 2016 11:15 AM in response to crosspieby brenton07,I know this post is years old, but thought I'd answer for anyone else.
You're probably not connected to the internet. Make sure you are on your wifi network by selecting the WIFI network in the top right corner, or hard wired with ethernet.
I'm not sure why they don't have a different error message for this particular scenario, but in my case this resolved it instantly.

Sep 5, 2016 4:53 PM in response to vladimirku3nby Atchoo,Hello,
Note: My solution only applies to those who have previously installed and/or upgraded OS X on another Mac, or on the same Mac you´re having issues with. You will also need a complete Time Machine backup. If you have, read on.
I was having this particular issue, and I was connected to WiFi and internet the whole time, but it didn´t make any difference. However, I solved it by using the Migration Assistant app, located in
/Applications/Tools
I had problems upgrading from Lion, because that´s the OS version I installed first, and that´s why the rescue partion got "stuck" on Lion as well - which ultimately resulted in the error message we all know.
But anyway - I opened up the Migration Assistant, and plugged in my external Time Machine drive.
I chose to transfer my user details, Documents, "Other Files" (which includes a "receipts" folder, with a register of almost everything I´ve downloaded from App Store, and that´s the important stuff I believe. Don´t take my word on it, I may be wrong).
Lastly I selected "Downloads", although I doubt that one made any significance
With Firewire (this was on my oldest Macbook Pro), the whole deal took about 1 hour. Then I ran the installer for Yosemite (the one that previously resulted in the error message), and after a minor hiccup, everything went smooth from there.
Hope it helps someone.
Andreas
