Upgraded to iTunes 11 and now Windows and iTunes do not recognize my iPhone 5

Windows 7 and iTunes 11 do not recognize my iPhone 5. Windows and the previous version of iTunes worked fine. I connected the device and it would open iTunes and auto-sync.

iPhone 5, iOS 6.0.1
