It says there is no device in the input or output. The volume control will not move either. Any Ideas?!
I have tried to change the settings in audi MIDI and it says no device there.

Try a pram reset. Power off, power back up, before the chime press and hold option, command, P, R (no commas) till you hear the start chime 2 times. Reboot. Hope this helps.
Will this delete anything on my computer? I'm currently using it for studying for exams and can't afford to lose any documents
No. It might change some of your personal preferences back to default, but will not delete any data. As with anything, always do a back up first, and close al open applications.
Unfortunately this did not help. It did not even make the chime. But I appreciate the suggestion!
No chime, that's strange. If have not already done so, try going to system preferences>sound>output tab and make sure mute is not checked.
It won't let me move the volume control at all in there bc there is no input or output device recognized. So it does say it is on mute but the whole thing is grey and I can't control it click on it. The chime has not come on in weeks.
Try a smc, then the pram reset. If still no joy, you might want to take it to the Apple store. Also look in the headphone jack and see if there is a red light on.
