How do you change administrator designation?

In what regard? The Admin account must be established in Users & Groups preferences by another admin user or when the computer is first setup. So, what are you looking to change?
I just purchased a new Mac Air and went through the start up process the other night. This will be a gift for my wife. Without thinking I put her name down as administrator. I also picked a password that she can change after this is gifted. On our Dell I am listed as adminstrator because her knowledge of computer is clicking on a Y for Yahoo and the F for Facebook. I would like to set myself up as adminstrator and change her to a secondary account. Is it too late to do this?
