Error downloading codec, no video just sound....

That's an indication that your movies are not encoded in a format for which there is a decoder available from Microsoft.

Your files may well be in XVid or DivX format in which case you will need to download the appropriate codecs which can be found with a quick search.

Once you can play your files you should be able to convert them.
