Password protection circumvented by Macintosh HD in Finder.

My user profile is password protected but the others on my computer can access my files from Macintosh HD in Finder. Can this be prevented?

iMac, Mac OS X (10.6.8)

Turn of file sharing in System Preferences - Sharing and uncheck File Sharing.

On Snow Leopard, FileVault only encrypts the user, so you have to upgrade to OS X Lion or Mountain Lion to use the full encryption of your hard disk with FileVault

Open the Info window on your home folder and make it readable only by you.
