Q: On opening my new iPad 2 it's not in english

This article explains how to change the language even if you do not understand the language on the screen.

Tap on the Settings icon.

Tap on the 6th option from the top. It should be General.

Scroll al the way to the bottom, and tap on the 3rd option from the bottom. That shoud be International.

Tap the first option: Should be Language.

Look for English in the List.  Tap it and then Tap the blue button on the top right corner.

That should change the iPad language to English.

I used Google Translate to do this. See if one of these looks like way you are seeing on the iPad

noun: 英語, 英文, 英國人

adjective: 英國人的

verb: 英國化

At the Welcome screen, tap the bottom box (that literally means To choose a different language, tap here). Choose your preferred language.
