Receiving mail, but unable to reply or send. Mail Accounts on settings page appear inactive.

New iphone 5 with IOS6.0.1 update. Mail pushed from TalkTalk & hotmail work account, but I'm unable to send replies at all - emails get stuck in outbox. Mail accounts on settings page appear inactive (pale) - I'm unable to tap & reset. Also iCloud, Facetime, Twitter & Facebook on settings page inactive, but apps work ok on homepage.. should I restore & try again? (Upgraded from iphone 3 to 5)
