My little white macbook core duo 2.1 suddenly shut off. The battery was at 90%. It would not start again. I plugged it in and it would startup, give me the chime, then go off a few seconds later. Is it now in mac heaven or can it be saved?
Power or other problems related to unexpected system sleep, shutdown, lights or fans call for an SMC reset. Try that.

Still having problems? Replace steps 6 and 7 with the following:
6. Reconnect MagSafe power adapter.
7. Press the power button to turn on the computer,
8. Then reconnect the battery.

John thanks for the help. I had to go to the 2nd step but when I reconnected the battery while it was plugged in and on it shut the computer off immediately. I restarted it just plugged in, shut it down, installed the battery, plugged it in, and it wouldn't restart. So I am thinking the battery is bad?
Do you know a ventor for batteries?

There are plenty of aftermarket battery vendors. I do not recommend them since I have found Apple batteries last the longest.

You can get a new third party battery fairly cheap on eBay. Every MacBook from 2006 through Mid 2009 except the Late 2008 Aluminum Unibody and the Late 2009 and 2010 White Unibodies use the same A1185 battery.

thanks. I was impatient and got one for $38. Wish I would have seen this earlier.
I didn't want to spend to much for a slow old laptop so if this battery lasts a few years it will be time to upgrade anyways.
