I can't figure out how to add music manually when synced to my itunes 12. I could just drag the song to the ipad icon in previous versions to add, but it doesn't appear to work the same way with this latest version.
What am I missing?

I don't have the latest version of iTunes, but on a hunch, do you have iTunes configured to Manually Manage Music and Videos in the settings?

BTW, there is no "iTunes 12". The new version just released is iTunes 11.

Sorry about the version 12 thing. It is the latest version 11. I do have it set up to manually manage music, mostly because I was transferring WMA audio books from my local library and they had to convert in iTunes so I had to change some settings.
I assumed that you meant iTunes 11 and I'm not using that either. If something g has changed on it with regard to manually managing content, I don't know about it.
Are you seeing the sidebar in iTunes 11? if not - See if anything in this discussion helps.
I worked it out. OK in the previous version I could go to the playlist generated automatically called recently added. Then I could just drag and drop to my iPad from there. With this new version I have to search out each song or artist if I added a complete album then I can drag and drop from there.
It is a step backwards for me, it takes much longer to accomplish the task but it does work.

Download Syncios then add the songs to the playlist vis syncios then ITunes will recognize them
