Black bars on the side of my FCE exported video?

Hi,

I am working on a school video project. The footage is 1440x1080, as well as the canvas size. I imported the AVCHD footage with Log and Transfer. It looks great in the canvas, but when I export, it is sort of squeezed in with black bars on the side. I am exporting as with H.264 at the "High" quality and with multi-pass. Can someone please help me?
