iTunes 11 Freezing and consuming RAM

Since updating iTunes 11 on a iMac the software freezes. The iMacs 4Gb of ram is half consumed with active memory and half with inactive. The rainbow spinning wheel spins away and the computer is near unusable. The entire operating system comes to a screeching halt until iTunes is force closed freeing up the RAM.
Ideas anyone?
Is it possible to rollback the update?
Any ideas would be greatly appreciated thanks!

I'm having the same issue. Everytime I open the new iTunes (and the latest version of it before iTunes 11) it freezes. It's trying to access the iTunes store right away, and I usually don't have the internet on, which i think is the problem. I've turned that feature off and it still has that problem. Presently it is trying to download a podcast that it started before, so I wish I knew how to clear that up. It might solve my problem.

I am having the same issues with iTunes.

I leave iTunes open when I'm away from the computer so I can access my media files from my Apple TV (this is way Apple set it up to work).

When I return to my computer the next day, all 12 Gb of available RAM have been gobbled up by It and iTunes is frozen. iTunes needs to get on fixing this memory leak immediately. This new version should never have been pushed out with this serious problem.

I wish I could revert to iTunes 10.

Running mid 2011 iMac i7 with 12 Gb of RAM.

It's been happening to me as well. I'm running a mid 2011 MBP with Lion, 4GB of RAM. It'll be fine sometimes, but if it's left on for too long, it will just stop mid-song, then the spinning beach ball will appear. Sometimes it'll resume after 10 seconds or so, but sometimes it can freeze the whole computer for even longer. I'm also having a problem with disappearing play counts. I'm not pleased.

I was experiencing these problems, too, after installing iTunes 11. My iMac is an early '09 model and I'm still using Snow Leopard. After upping the RAM from 2GB to 8GB the problems ALL went away completely. Maybe adding more RAM would help you, as well? I still wish I had never updated from iTunes 10.7, but at least the new version isn't wreaking havoc with my computer anymore.

I have this same problem. I leave iTunes running on my Mac mini to sync wirelessly to my iPhone and iPad. I sometimes log in to check on it, and it is beach balled. I check activity monitor and iTunes is using anywhere from 4-6GB of ram and increasing every few seconds. I have 8GB of physical RAM.

I am forced to force quit and restart iTunes. It's annoying, and just started with iTunes 11.

Same problem here

When I open iTunes 11 sooner or later (likely sooner) iMac freezes

spinning ball and no way to get out except turning iMac off

I am simply not using iTunes anymore and wait for a fix. I hoped that after few months a fix would be ready, but it seems that nothing has been made

As I see this is a quite common problem (if affecting just 1% of users, millions of unsatisfied users stil remain)

So it's ridicolous and ...outrageous that Apple is not taking care of it, at least leaving a feeling that they are taking care

No response, no advice, no aknowledgement ...nothing

it's quite offensive to faithful customer like me who used to sponsor the brand any time I had opportunity

I am really unsatisfied of iTunes and in general of Apple
