Networks cannot be found after installing Mountain Lion

Ever since I upgraded to Mountain Lion my wifi on my MacBook Pro is unable to detect any sort of network anywhere (cant find anything). My Macbook is a Early 2011 15" model running 10.8.2, I am also using a Cisco DPC3825 router but I have also tried to make a Personal Hotspot off my Iphone and it does not show. I have tried reinstalling Mountain Lion already and I still have the same issue please help!

Can you get the Mac online somehow with a wired connection? I fear you may be missing an update or two that may be impacting on the issue. Be sure to run Software Update ( which on ML will dump you into the App Store; I loathe that new and "modern" way of updating!).

Just for good measure, reset the SMC and the PRAM. Then go into System Preferences / Network / Wi-Fi, turn Wi-Fi on, go to Advanced... / Wi-Fi, delete all previous known networks with the minus ( - ) button, that the Remember option is checked and all authorization options unchecked and see which networks pop up.

If the desired network is secured, once you select it the passphrase will be requested. The Remember... option will help by making sure you only need to do this once.

Yes actually I am currently using it on a wired connection, and I have the most recent firmware but I will attempt the SMC and PRAM reset I have done a SMC reset before but I didnt know how to do the PRAM until now, also I have tried deleting the location, like I said I cannot see any networks at all so I dont have any saved. thanks for the reply Ill keep my hopes up.

If all else fails, try running the Wi-Fi Diagnostics app found in System/Library/Core Services.

A nifty little trouble-shooting tool.

Should also check in the System Profiler to confirm the cat is detecting the hardware. About this Mac / More Info... / System Report / Network / Wi-Fi / Interfaces / en1:

If nothing is there, then de poop is deep. Else it will be a much simpler software issue. A partial of what mine displays is:

OK!!! So now it will just be a test of wills to persuade the ornery feline to use the hardware properly. Just like when you have a real cat and want to train it not to pee in the flowerpots 😝

Did the PRAM reset help any?

First, let's step back a bit and confirm the cat's ornery. Do you have any other device currently connecting to the Internet thru the Cisco router and confirming it is working properly? If yes, let's get more evil on the cat. Roll up Sunday's newspaper....

In System Preferences / Network, select the Wi-Fi service on the left column and delete it with the minus ( - ) button on the bottom. Just to be sure it is dead and gone, I'd go as far as restarting the Mac. Then create a new Wi-Fi service with the plus ( + ) button: choose the Wi-Fi interface in the dialog, name as desired, click Create. And go thru the motions to see if it now can communicate with your wireless router.

Yes 2 iphones and an ipad 2 are able to connect properly to the cisco router and ok removed, restarting now 🙂

Yes I was able to re create the interface if it helps my bluetooth also does not work my computer is able to find my phone on bluetooth but my phone is not able to find my macbook, I dont know if this is due to my sharing settings or not Its getting very very late if you have any more suggestions just list them off for me if you could and Ill try all them when I wake up I might also try to get my hands on a version of lion to see if it works on there, thank you so much for taking your time to try to fix my problem!

the same is when I try to create a personal hotspot from my laptop, my phone is also not able to find that.
