apple tv not starting

my apple tv was updating, on screen instructions said not to unplug....it got unplugged. now the apple tv will not turn on. have tried restarting by unplugging and by using the remote. no luck.

the apple tv screen with all the boxes (i.e. netflix, nhl, nbl, podcast, hula, etc) do not appear

does the remote show a laser light when pressed? could it be the battery?

do I need to reset?

thanks for your help.

Try restarting the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds, or resetting it using the reset option under general. You should also try restarting your router.

If your problem persists get yourself a micro USB cable (sold separately), you can restore your Apple TV from iTunes:

  1. Remove ALL cables from Apple TV. (if you don't you will not see Apple TV in the iTunes Source list)
  2. Connect the micro USB cable to the Apple TV and to your computer.
  3. Reconnect the power cable (only for Apple TV 3)
  4. Open iTunes.
  5. Select your Apple TV in the Source list, and then click Restore.
