"static" sound 1st gen apple tv

I've just hooked up my 1st Gen Apple TV for the first time in over a year and have been having issues with a static type distortion coming through my speaker. I have it hooked up to my Toshiba 46" using HDMI which is then hooked optically to a Vizio sound bar (I know I know 😊). It almost sounds like some sort of electrical interference but nothing else hooked up this way suffers this issue(Wii U, Blu Ray, Xbox, sattelite receiver). At first I thought it was an airport streaming issue but since moving my music to the Apple TV hard drive it has not stopped. Any ideas?
