Hey Gary, thanks for the reply.
I am currently trying to plug my imac to a 55" TV to run a slideshow with remote, while having the presenter software minimized and google chrome open and functional. The problem is once i switch away from the presenter application the TV goes to an empty screen. The pc this imac was supposed to replace does this without any problems running powerpoint 97.
My imac with powerpoint '11 and keynote '09 cannot do this simple task it seems
have you set displays to dual output ( deselct mirror ) in system preferences > hardware > displays ?
also check to see if you have a discrete graphics setting, the higher performance option may allow dual output:
in menu bar; click battery indicator > energy saving
or go to
system preferences > energy saving > higher performance
