AX first time user - initial setup

hi there

just purchased two AX yesterday.

I've connected them to the existing LAN and discovered the with the airport utility (most current version for windows).

the utility can disover the AX but it cannot access the AX for configuration.

my LAN has a 192.168.x.x subnet with DHCP service running on a firewall. so I've configured both NICs of my PC with 10.0.1.x IP to connect to the 10.0.1.1 of th AX. (only one AX was in use at this time). still I cannot access the AX at all.

as the manual does not clearly state anything about ip connectivity I'm wondering what I shoul do...

Any help?

I gess the next thing is to stop DHCP on the FW, shut down existing WLAN and try to connect to the AX back2back

By default, the AirPort Express will broadcast an unsecured wireless network with a Network Name (aka SSID) of something like: Apple Network NNNNNN. Does your PC "see" this network? Your PC needs to connect to the AirPort's wireless network BEFORE the AirPort Utility can find it. This is also true since you connected the AirPort to your LAN that is running on a different subnet than the default 10.0.n.n that the AirPort uses.

The other option is to temporarily connect your PC directly to the Express by Ethernet, make the necessary changes via the AirPort Utility, and then, reconnect it back to your LAN.
