Safari loading issue

Recently, when i type in a web address in safari, or choose one of my bookmarks, the blue strip shows the page loading, but then stops half way, with no page loaded - it's as if Safari has frozen. If I hit the X in the browser address window bar and hit enter again, the page loads fine. Any help appreciated.
