iPod mapping issue

My iPod Gen 4 with 6.1 installed software is a mess now. I plug in to iTunes and it does not map as a removable device but rather maps as a portable device allowing me to only import photos to my new laptop. I am essentially trying to import music from iPod to new laptop. Also trying to dump music in to new Apple ID library. HELP!
