Where is genius on new iTunes 11 to make suggestions from iTunes store

In older iTunes a string of genious suggestions showed on side which was linked to iTunes store. In iTunes 11 it's gone. While there are genious suggestions while browsing the store itself, it appears that feature is gone in iTunes 11 when playing music from your own list.

I purchaed a lot of music from their suggestions while I was listening to music I had purchased so hope they didn't do away with it.

Yes I can make a genius playlist anytime comprised of my purchased music, but thought the side suggestions from the store was very helpful.

Think it was a mistake for Apple to dump. Also no more setting to search for duplicates in my playlist anymore in iTunes 11 either.

Just like Sgt Nobby said, if you switch your music view to Albums or Artists, there should be a button on the right of the screen which says 'In the Store'. It will give you top songs and top albums for that artist and also recommended songs from other artists. 🙂

However for this button to appear, you have to be signed in to the iTunes store and have the option 'Share details about your library with Apple' ticked in the Store Preferences (Go to iTunes Preferences > Store). Tested in iTunes 11.

There may be other ways, but one is to hover your cursor over a track and click the arrow that will appear. Among the options will be to show Genius Suggestions and to create a Genius Playlist.

Apple has said in the last day or so that feature will be restored in an upcoming update.

As said earlier, the only Genius I see is the Genous for my own music which I can derive my list anytime without that feature.

What was helpful was the Genius to see other iTunes suggestions from the store based on the selected song while viewing in my play list. This feature was in iTunes 10 and now gone. Hitting the arrow which takes you to iTunes can lead to a suggested list, but you now have to go back and forth between store and your library to look at suggested songs to purchase. The only good news here is the new iTunes genius now showes 40 suggestions at least when viewing in the iTunes Store.

Still can't understand why they didn't leave that feature for when viewing a tune in your own library.

I can't even find view anymore but it sounds like it's like the thing RTRandy and I have been mentioning over and over again. It's not the genius we are looking for. We want to BUY songs... I'm happy you're trying to help just please read what we are typing...

By the way RTRandy, you can go to the iTunes store, home, and the "Recommended for You" Quick link. It's similar but still a giant inconvenience.

Edit: 10 Minutes later, found "view".

I have the sidebar enabled and can see the Genius Mixes menu item under the Genius heading.

When selected it shows generally categories of music mixes that can be selected from Album covers.

Howerer, I cannot figure out how to display the the song lists under each.

It seems that with iTunes 11, the song list in the Genius Mixes are no longer shown.

I can make a Genius mix from one song by using the mouse. However, once again the genius list of songs is no longer shown. It just goes from song to song invisibly.

I upgraded from Snow Leaopard to Mountain Lion, skipping Lion. I don't know if this is the reason but I sure do not see itunes work the way it used to with Genius lists.

I had exactly the same problem, I found a way to do it, but its not as straightforward as before. If you click on the song you are enjoying, change the view to 'Grid' or 'Artist list'.

If you then click on the song you are listening to, or the album cover it will give you an option for 'In the Store'. If you click on that it will give you 'Top songs', 'Top albums' and 'recommended songs'.

Click on 'recommended songs' for similar songs from the Itunes store. Agreed, its not as easy as it used to be when you had a simple side bar on the right hand side in the previous version of Itunes, but this works for me 😎

I was very frustrated trying to greate genius playlist's under Itunes 11

It turnes out that the option to create genius playlist is NOT available using the Songs view in Itunes

Change to Albums or Artists choose your song and create genius playlist now becomes avaliable

when you right click the song.

Why it does not work in the Songs view just does not make sense to me.

I hope this helps it took me a long time to find this out.

I'm annoyed by the same fact that Genius does no longer make suggestions from the iTunes store , only from your own library. Also I did most of my music purchases in the past based on the Genius store suggestions. My music purchases have since iTune 11 dropped significantly . Can't understand the business idea behind this change in the Genius behaviour !
