How do I restore Terminal to its default state?

Mac Pro OS X version 10.7.5

How do I restore Terminal to its default state? I messed it up while I was trying to learn how to PATH files.

I found another person with same issue and followed the instructions there but I end up getting a different result please help

I put:

/bin/cat /etc/paths

answer:

/usr/bin

/bin

/usr/sbin

/sbin

/usr/local/bin

than put:

echo $SHELL

answer:

/bin/bash

at last:

echo $PATH

answer:

/usr/bin:/bin:/usr/sbin:/sbin:/usr/local/bin:/usr/X11/bin

I dont know what else to do. each time I type path to terminal it says:

-bash: path: command not found

MacBook Pro, Mac OS X (10.7.5)
