Beware of sites telling you that you need Java to view videos. Java has had some security issues, and I'm not sure that the latest version of Java 6 available on Mac OS X 10.5.8 is secure. I believe the latest version available to you has some vulnerabilities that are known to be exploited by Mac malware. Besides which, no legit sites that I'm aware of actually use Java for playing video... they either use Flash or HTML5. I'm sure there are some out there, but you really shouldn't risk it. Disable Java in your web browser and avoid sites that require it.
I agree with Thomas. First, Java is already installed, but disabled. Second, it's unsafe to use. Third, any site that tells you to enable Java to watch a video is highly suspicious.
If, however, you choose to ignore the risks and use Java anyway, enable it in the Java Preferences application and in your browser settings.
