mountain lion on a new macbook air

i bought a new macbook air a week ago and it came with OS X 10.8.2, i saw on apple store that i can buy mountain lion and install it, shouldn't it be free for a new mac?

MacBook Air, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

You're already running Mountain Lion. OS X 10.8.2 IS Mountain Lion. 🙂

You already have it. OS X 10.8.2 is Mountain Lion.
