Where are my apps in the new iTunes?

Where are they? When I connect my iPad it does'nt show up. How do I update apps if I can't find them.

When upgrading iTunes yesterday, I noted in the fine print that they were moving apps and ringtones out of iTunes "to focus on music, movies, TV shows and podcasts". Apparently, the App Store no longer exists or is available in iTunes on the Mac or PC at all and, going forward, the new IOS App Store (v11, due out next week) will be the only place to browse, purchase and download apps. There was no mention of how to manage or upload ringtones to your phone now that they have been dropped from iTunes. I personally would create custom ringtones and upload them to my phone via iTunes, but that is no longer an option.

From Manually manage content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes - Apple Support:

Manually add items from your computer

If you have media on your computer that you can't redownload from the App Store or iTunes Store directly on your iOS device, such as custom ringtones or iOS apps, you can drag and drop the media from your computer to your iOS device using iTunes.

  1. Connect your device to your computer.
  2. Open iTunes. Make sure that you have the latest version.
  3. On your computer, find the item you want to add to your device. If you're looking for Apps, Tones, or Books (for Windows) that previously appeared in your iTunes library, you can find them in your iTunes media folder.
  4. Drag the item from your computer to your iOS device in the left sidebar of iTunes.User uploaded file

it is annoying not being able to sync the Apps via iTunes, or not being able to pick the App I want to transfer to my device without having to redownload from the cloud.

If you downloaded it to your iTunes, you sync it to your device, same way it has always worked.

For people living in countries where internet speeds are very slow, it is not a very bright idea.

What is not a bright idea?

Another tab that is gone is Ringtones tab....

This tab?

So, in looking through the detailed notes from the iTunes update, I noted this link: Changes in the new iTunes - Apple Support. It contains a rather detailed explanation of the changes in iTunes as well as how to locate apps and ringtones that you've previously synced via your Mac and how to sync those and other items via USB if you need to after the update.

Management of apps, books, and tones has been removed from iTunes 12.7. See Changes in the new iTunes - Apple Support for details. The intention is clearly that management of these generally takes place on the device.

See the Manually add items from your computer section of Manually manage content on your iPhone, iPad, or iPod touch using iTunes - Apple Support for the control that remains. This can be used to copy apps, ePubs, iBooks, PDFs, and tones from your computer to your device. The File Sharing feature for copying data between apps and the computer is still there. You can also use iCloud Drive, Dropbox, or other cloud services to move content to and from the device.

Apps downloaded with versions of iTunes prior to 12.7 should be in the Mobile Applications folder inside your iTunes Media folder.

A long time criticism of iTunes, at least from some quarters, is that has been that it has become bloated. Perhaps this is an attempt to address that. I let both my iOS devices update automatically when there is an updated app, and I'm not interested in hanging on to old apps that a developer has withdrawn, nor do I need to rearrange my apps often, so while the change is drastic, I don't think it really affects me much. I'm more irritated by the changes to iTunes U, and iBooks in iTunes for Windows.

See Deploy apps in a business environment with iTunes - Apple Support for access to iTunes 12.6.3 if you want to revert to a build with app management features. Windows users need to uninstall the current copy of the iTunes application first. See Empty/corrupt iTunes library after upgrade/crash for steps to revert to a pre-iTunes 12.7 version of your iTunes database.

Yeah, I have this question too. I hope they reconsider this.

I spoke with Apple Tech Support extensively on this issue. The iTunes update 12.7 eliminated Apps. So there is no work around, no buttons to push, it has been eliminated and that is that! All that you can do is go to Apps on your i device and purchase new apps or click on your picture, go to account, all purchases, purchases and you can then see your list of apps. You can swipe left to hide an unused app.

That is it. I highly recommend everyone filling out a request form on the Apple help screen and ask for the "App" option be put back into iTunes. They do listen and we may see it in a future update if enough people express there desires.

I want to delete one that keeps announcing it needs to be updated (by its developer) to work with iOS11 but I can only find it via Search which doesn't let me delete it. When I use the route above, it's not there. These notifications don't come to my iPad, only my phone, and now I can't get rid of it via iTunes. Small problem but an irritation.

Thank you for responding. I'm a visual learner so that was very insightful, however I'm a senior so I need to see my apps not just know where they are on my computer, it would have been nice if Apple would have thought about us since we do spend a great deal of money with them as well. I have no reason whatsoever to ever purchase a app from them again especially since I cannot view it when I want to. Again, thanks for you help, if you ever figure out a way to put them back please let me know. Thanks

Where are my apps in the new iTunes?
