Cannot receive imessages or update apps?

I am wondering what is wrong with my iPhone 4- all of the sudden I seem to not receive iMessages and I cannot update my apps, yet I can buy new apps and they can download ok.

I never messed with my settings, so I am not sure what the issue is?
