iTunes 11: "Movies" vs. "Home Videos"

So when in the "Movies" section of iTunes, there are views including Unwatched, Genres, Movies, Home Videos, and List. I want to move some video content from "Home Videos" to "Movies". How do I do this?

MacBook Pro, OS X Mountain Lion (10.8.2)

I know this is an old thread, but I'm pretty sure people are still having this issue as I have had/have. I would like for any movies (*.mp4) that I have on my computer to show up under the "Movies" option on my iPad, so that I could apply the artwork (movie cover) to the movies. I've seen that some people were saying to right click the video you have & click get info > options > media kind, and change the setting home video to movie or movie to home video. Once again I prefer movie for artwork reasons. When I tried this method, it does something to the video that renders it useless. After you have changed the media kind, the video does not play. It will display an "O" and won't play.

Even if I have downloaded (Movie Name - Season X), from the same source/website, which could include multiple mp4 videos, when transferred to the iPad via iTunes, some end up under the movie category and some end up under the home videos category.

I have found that when using iSkysoft Video Converter to re-convert the already mp4 videos to mp4 again, all the videos will now show up under the "movies" tab on the iPad. I still have no idea as to why this needs to be done & I would have thought there would be something that could be changed via "right click" within windows to prevent this problem.

I am currently running Windows 7 x64 and using the latest version of iTunes (12.5.x), but have noticed this issue for as long as I can remember.

I've noticed Apple pinheads are working overtime to discourage people to load their own movies. When you go to the movies tab, you only see what was purchased from the iTunes store. When you add a movie from your own MP4 collection to iTunes, it doesn't show up. But don't be fooled. Apple did let you import it as a file. They just won't tell you or show you.

So whatever movie you imported, go to the search box on top right, and type in the name of the movie. Once you type it in you will find the move is all of a sudden magically displayed, and a new tab is created called "home movies." Well goodness sake, isn't that something????

I don't think the people who design this stuff have to ever actually use it otherwise they wouldn't make it so complicated. Luckily there are a lot of smart people out there that have shared many workarounds. If you have an issue, google it and end it with "apple discussions" and I'll bet you'll find a solution. Just don't go directly to Apple for help. They're SELLING movies, they don't want you to bring your own.

Note that in iTunes 11, it's probably an oversight that you can't target "home videos" in smart playlists.

If you edit a smart playlist and try to target Media Kind is/isn't <type>, the offered types are TV shows, movies, etc. but not home videos. Therefore you can't build smart playlists that specifically target (or don't target) home videos.

Yet. Hopefully they'll fix it in 11.0.1.

IMO: iTunes is Apple's biggest blunder since they rehired Jobs in [whatever year that was]. Apple's whole deal is that out stuff is easy to understand and use. Then there's iTunes: a mess of a UI that is only rivaled in the category of "worst UI ever" by Lotus Notes (which looks like it was designed by a monkey banging on the keyboard and mouse).
